The Painting and The Piano, by John Lipscomb and Adrianne Lugo,

The Painting and The Piano, by John Lipscomb and Adrianne Lugo,

The Painting and The Piano, by John Lipscomb and Adrianne Lugo, is an improbable story of survival and love.

Growing up more than a thousand miles apart and worlds away from each other, Johnny and Adrianne seemed to have all that a child could ask for. However, the demons of their respective mothers would tear their young, fragile lives apart.

Eventually, destiny would bring Johnny and Adrianne together, but first they had to endure the painful toll that alcohol, drugs, and a negligent court system would take on them. With parts of Adrianne’s story ripped from national news headlines, their story takes them from the depths of despair and near death, to their first serendipitous introduction and the moment each knew they were finally safe.

Filled with hope, inspiration and humor, The Painting and the Piano is an unforgettable story of pain, loss and the undying human quest for happiness. Told as a tandem narrative, Adrianne and Johnny’s stories are unique, but share parallels that create a taut and emotionally compelling narrative.

The Painting and The Piano is set to be released in February 2016. Genres: Literary Nonfiction / Romance / Memoir / Addiction and Recovery

About the Authors:

I’m in an office in Manhattan. There’s a large mirror embedded in one wall.

The furniture is small, a table and two chairs built especially for children.

There are a few toys, but none of them are very interesting.

The room is bare and cold, even though it’s mid-summer in Manhattan.

Honey, we have to go, but we’ll be back soon, okay? Mom says.
Where are

you going? I feel fidgety and kick at the kiddie chair next to me. Just for a

little walk, not too far.

My tummy hurts and I don’t want to be there. Okay, Ady Maidy? Dad

asks.
We’ll be back in a jip, Mom adds.
Jiff, Dad says.

Wha?

Jiff! We’ll be back in a jiff.

Good grief. She knows what I mean, don’t you honey?

Mom and Dad look at the woman who brought us to this room. I don’t

remember her name, maybe it was Ms. Abramsky, but she’s wearing beige

polyester pants and a sky blue short-sleeved blouse with a ruffle running

along either side of the buttons.

Her arms are folded across her belly. It’ll be okay. Your mom and dad will be

here in a minute. I look at my parents. Mom and Dad are right here.

Mom’s eyes are sharp, head tilted, arms across her chest, purse grasped

tightly in her right hand. Dad’s eyes are soft, moist. His hands are in his

pockets.

I guess I mean Mr. and Mrs. Schoenowitz, Ms. Abramsky says.

Can we step out into the hall? Mom asks.

Yes Mrs. Cahn, replies Ms. Abramsky.

Will, why don’t you stay with Ady, Mom says to Dad. She and Ms. Abramsky

step into the hall. The door shuts solidly behind them.

I couldn’t hear what they said, nor do I think I wanted to, but when I was

older Mom rehashed the conversations she’d had with the agency.

Everything was fine until I called to say we wanted to adopt Adrianne, Mom

remembered saying. I know, responded Ms. Abramsky.

When we first came into this agency we were very clear that we were

looking for a baby girl that we could adopt—

I wasn’t here then—

I know that, but it should be in the file because when we were called we

were told that you had a little girl from drug-addicted parents and that it

would be a long-term foster parenting opportunity that probably would turn

into an adoption.

At that time the mother was in jail and the father was nowhere to be found,

said Ms. Abramsky. Right...and all the time your agency is telling us, ‘Don’t

worry, everything is fine—’

And it was. When you asked about adopting Adrianne we had to try and

contact the biological parents, which we did—

Uh huh—

—When Adrianne was born Mrs. Schoenowitz voluntarily put Adrianne into

foster care, so we had to try to speak to both Mr. and Mrs. Schoenowitz—

So that’s why we’re here now—
—and they wanted to meet

Adrianne.
What about adopting Adrianne? Is that still in the picture?
Mrs.

Cahn, we’re a foster agency and in no way an adoption agency. We have

certain guidelines.
Does one of those guidelines include telling Mrs.

Schoenowitz she has the right to take Adrianne back? It took a long time for

Mom to get an answer to that question.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

We catch up with Mary in book 3. She lives with her husband and twin boys in their teenage years in Wales.

Mary niece has followed Mary's footsteps and also works in a hospital in the caring profession. She is a Midwife.

One night an incident happens with a chap who has just become a new Father, this brings back heaps of memories that really shock her.

This book is the next generation of the Howard family, its now in the 1960's.

As with all families there are secrets, buried secrets which we know eventually come to the surface, and there is drama, plenty of drama to keep your interest.

This series has reminded me of something, if you live in the UK there used to be a family saga, Family at War, its got that 'feel' about it.

I really enjoyed this series and would be looking to read any of this authors books again.

All the Way to Heaven

Book & Author Details:

All the Way to Heaven by Becky Doughty
(The Fallout Series, #1)
Published by: Clean Teen Publishing
Publication date: November 2nd 2015
Genres: New Adult, Romance

Synopsis:
Anica Tomlin, business major, has just learned that the man she’s been planning her future around, her Global Finance professor, already has a beautiful wife and family. Ani cashes in her graduation gift to herself a little early—a trip to Tuscany—but from the moment she boards the wrong train in Pisa, her plans for solitude and self-indulgence begin to unravel around her.
When a bicycle accident thrusts Ani into the skilled hands of the dashing Dr. Cosimo Lazzaro, she reluctantly accepts his invitation to recover in his family’s country villa, perched on a hilltop surrounded by the Lazzaro olive groves. But it’s been a black year for olive growers all over Italy, and generations of tradition are being put to the test like never before.
Ani is swept up in the drama of life in Tuscany, the convergence of old and new, and the passions that drive people to pursue the desires of their hearts. Just as Ani begins to get her feet under her again, an unexpected turn of events leaves her doubting the very existence of happily-ever-after, unless she can learn to trust the desires of her own heart.
Although All the Way to Heaven is a stand-alone novel, it is the first book in The Fallout Series, a collection of sweet contemporary romances that follow characters featured in the first book.

Reaching for my seatbelt, I grappled with the strap for a few moments, trying to tug it across

my lap using just my fingertips, but I couldn’t get the two ends of the buckle to lock in. Mr.

Rude Guy leaned into the already ridiculously cramped space of the tiny back seat, reached

across me, and gently took the two ends from my clumsy grip. The click was loud in the

sudden stillness, and I took in a shallow breath of surprise through my nose.

Lord have mercy. My nostrils filled with the achingly familiar scent of... of a man. Other than

my father, my face hadn’t been this close to one since Jacob, and even though this guy had a

distinct sunsoaked quality not shared by my ex, there was no mistaking that certain

underlying note that women just didn’t have. I breathed in a little deeper, covertly, I thought,

but he turned to look at me, his face less than a foot away, and smiled. A real, genuine smile.

Even the fatigue that seemed to hover around his eyes receded for just a moment.

Then he was backing out of the car, slowly, careful not to bump his head on the low door

frame. He stayed bent down in the opening though, his eyes serious again. And I was

suddenly deflated, drained of all my bravado, embarrassed at being caught sniffing him, and

more than a little daunted by what lay ahead of me.

“Thank you... I—I don’t even know your name.”

Excerpt

“Oh God, yes!”
I look down at the woman between my thighs and grimace. I just wanted a fuck. A release. Not her voice splitting my skull. She thinks it’s sexy. It’s not. While I bang into her over and over again I should be building up to the few seconds of pure bliss I need right now. Not thinking about how I should have gagged her.
Leaning forward over her, I slip my hand around her throat, watching as her slender neck disappears under my palm, positioning my thumb and forefinger on each side of her jaw, holding her in place. She automatically tilts her head back slightly and opens her mouth, but this time without sound. This is turning her on, which works for me because I wasn’t about to stop. I can feel her pulse through my hand and so squeeze my fingers, tightening on each thrust in. Her eyes widen and flick to the corner of my mouth then back to my eyes. I know what she sees. It’s what they all see…the only thing I allow.
Emptiness, darkness and cruelty.
They need to know. It’s who I am.
It’s who I’ll always be.
I finish up. Pulling myself out of her and out of the bed, her eyes snap open and she stares at me.
“What are you doing?” she whines.
I look over at her while pulling my jeans on. “Going home.”
“Well, you could stay?” she asks, with a smile. “We could do that again.” Her smile turns into a smirk
“No thanks,” I reply. Mentally going over the list of things I had on me and making sure I’ve got them all before leaving.
You never come back.
Never.
Rule One—If you leave your phone, wallet, house keys, etcetera, you get new ones. New phone, new wallet—Fuck! You get a new house if you have to. But you never come back. Period.
She frowns at me, I can see her brain working. “Okay, do you want to meet up later this week?” She’s grasping at straws and is sounding desperate.
“Not gonna happen. This was tonight. Just tonight. I told you when we were at the bar. This was a one-time deal. I fuck you. I leave.” My mouth twitches. “I’ve fucked you. Now I’m leaving.”
She scowls as my eyes land on my jacket.
“You complete wanker!” she shouts.
“Not sure what you expected?” I reply grabbing my jacket and heading to the bedroom door.
“Well thanks for fucking me!” she clips angrily as I walk away.
I salute her. “Pleasure babe.” Then walk out of her bedroom and her life, and I go back to feeling the cold. In more ways than one.
